Encrypt PDF

Add password protection to your PDF files - processed locally in your browser

Encryption Settings

Allow after opening

â„šī¸ Important

  • â€ĸ Uses the PDF standard security handler (128-bit RC4) — a genuine password is required to open the file
  • â€ĸ Everything runs locally in your browser
  • â€ĸ Remember your password - it cannot be recovered if lost

Add a password to a PDF so it can't be opened without it. The file is encrypted with the PDF standard security handler (128-bit RC4) — the same mechanism Adobe Acrobat has used for decades.

Choosing a password

Use at least 8 characters. A mix of letters, numbers, and symbols is stronger than a long single word. There is no password recovery: if you lose it, the file cannot be opened, so keep a copy of the password somewhere safe.

What gets protected

The whole document is encrypted — text, images, and metadata all require the password. By default the file can still be printed after opening, but not modified or copied from.

Files are processed entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded to a server.
